The Governmental Affairs Division proactively serves as the “Voice for Business” to Sumter County local, state and federal governments, as well as other related agencies and partners.
This Division engages in policy decisions, education, awareness, and advocating for issues of critical importance to business, industry, and community vitality.
Enhancing relationships with all our elected officials and promoting the growth and influence of Sumter County is another responsibility of the Division
Each year a calendar of events with opportunities to inform & engage the elected leadership of Sumter County is developed.
The Governmental Affairs Division seeks to facilitate open dialogue around issues of mutual interest and concern to the business community and our governmental partners.
“State of the Community Breakfast” - Every March, the Governmental Affairs Division sponsors this event which gives the community an opportunity to review the activities of the previous year and learn of upcoming initiatives throughout the County and Cities of Sumter County.
“Legislative Listening Day” - This effort involves a briefing with State Officials, once a year to hear the Chamber’s Legislative Agenda prior to the next State Legislative session. Community partners are invited to visit with our state officials, as well as businesses, schools, healthcare, local government that are wanting to discuss topics of interest or concerns.
“Candidate’s Forums” – These forums are organized by the Division to inform citizens to hear and meet the candidates running for local office. Other meet and greet opportunities are designed to meet state and federal candidates as well.
